A Layer 3 switch routes traffic based on IP addresses instead of just MAC addresses. It does the job of a router, but at the speed of a switch.

Use Cisco Catalyst 9300 or 9500 at the distribution

Use HSRP or VRRP for high availability
Assign routing interfaces per VLAN for inter-VLAN traffic
Segment users, devices, and apps using ACLs and SGTs
You don’t need to rip and replace. You need a distribution layer that thinks like a router and acts like a switch.

Mix routing logic across sites without a plan
Rely on static routes when your network is growing
