Does Cisco Duo Work with Microsoft 365 and Azure?

Yes. Cisco Duo integrates with Microsoft 365 and Azure Active Directory. It can be configured as the MFA provider for Azure AD through SAML, sit in front of Microsoft 365 applications through Duo Single Sign-On, or sync user directories from Azure AD through the Duo Authentication Proxy.

The integration gives organisations a choice. They can use Cisco Duo as the sole MFA platform across both Microsoft and non-Microsoft applications. Or they can use Microsoft Authenticator for Microsoft applications and Cisco Duo for everything else. Both configurations are supported.

The case for using Cisco Duo alongside a Microsoft environment comes down to what lies beyond Azure AD. Microsoft Authenticator is tightly integrated with the Microsoft ecosystem. It does not extend natively to legacy VPN concentrators, on-premises ERP systems, Linux infrastructure, or OT environments via RADIUS. Cisco Duo does.

For Indian enterprises running Microsoft 365 alongside legacy on-premises systems, this is a common scenario. The Microsoft environment is already protected by Conditional Access and Microsoft Authenticator. The legacy VPN, the on-premises finance application, and the SCADA network are not. Cisco Duo covers the gap without requiring changes to the Microsoft configuration already in place.

Cisco Duo's device trust also works alongside Microsoft Intune. Duo can read Intune device compliance status and factor it into access decisions.

Proactive Data Systems, a Cisco Preferred Security Partner, regularly deploys Cisco Duo in Indian enterprise environments running Microsoft 365 and Azure, covering both the Microsoft and non-Microsoft access surfaces from a single Duo admin console.
